Sydney Newcastle-Sydney-Water Ski Speed Run—Lauryn Eagle Sets new record.
Sunday May 17 2009 — SYCE as the lead sponsor for Lauryn in her attempt to set a new bench mark record for a water-skier to ski non stop to Newcastle and back to Sydney was undertaken; also to ski a faster time than the existing record from Syd-ney to Newcastle—Lauryn was successful in both.
The new time set from Sydney to Newcastle (120 Nautical miles) was 1 hour and 44 minutes and the round trip was set at 4 hours and 44 seconds— an incredible feat of sportsmanship.
Yamaha Motor Company provided a new 350 HP V 8 Outboard for the project; providing SYCE’s 8.5m Protector Centre Console (Juliet) a top speeds was 54.8 Knots, with Lauryn skiing a top speed of 50 knots — what a great power pack.
The set up with the Yamaha Outboard and the Protector RIB proved the perfect match to meet the demands of the offshore sea and wind conditions, allowing Lauryn the ideal break in the following water trail and the speed to meet the challenge.
SYCE thanks all the members of the support team, who devoted their time and expertise during all the practice runs, the Protector setup and on the day plus ,the operation of the support vessels including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter & Immediate Assistance for the safety team. The support of the Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol (Newcastle) as our time keepers in Newcastle was really appreciated.
A special mention to Sam Creighton who managed all the PR and Media. We look forward to the next record attempt—maybe Bass Strait!!!! |
